removal of cadmium from industrial wastewater by steel slag
Authors
abstract
the steel slag is the main by-product of steel industry. the aim of this study using the steel slag as a low-cost absorbent in order to remove cadmium pollutant from industrial wastewater. some factors that affect the process of cadmium removal by steel slag such as ph, contact time, absorbent dosage and cadmium initial concentration has been studied. standard solution of synthetic wastewater including cadmium has been prepared by adding chloride cadmium to distilled water and concentrations in the range of 5-25 mg/l have been reached. the results show that in optimum conditions, the removal of cadmium from aqueous solution with concentration about 25mg/l and 60min contact time is about 99%. the experimental data of adsorption equilibrium have been analyzed according to adsorption kinetics models and freundlich and longmuir adsorption isotherms. the physical, chemical and morphological features of the steel slag have been determined by xrd, xrf and sem techniques, too. the result of the experiments determined that the steel slag could be used as an effective and low-cost method in removing cadmium from industrial wastewater.

full textStudy of Cadmium and Nickel Removal from Battery Industry Wastewater by Fe2O3 Nanoparticles
Nickel and cadmium usually enter the environment and water resources through wastewater, released by various industries, and may have adverse effects. The current study employs α–Fe2O3 nanoparticles of 20-40 nm in order to remove nickel and cadmium from the wastewater of Saba Battery Company. Also, it investigates the influence of effective parameters on adsorption process, including pH, contac...

full textBasic Oxygen Furnace steel slag and apatite for sustainable phosphorus removal at small wastewater treatment plants
Recent developments in phosphorus (P) removal have focused on P reactive materials to use within constructed wetlands (CW), as a sustainable alternative to chemical dosing. In this study, different fractions of Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) steel slag and apatite media have been tested in full-scale CWs, being the first trial of its kind in the United Kingdom evaluating the P removal capacity of b...
full textNitrogen removal from industrial wastewater by hybrid constructed wetland systems
The efficiency in nitrogen removal from wastewater generated at CSBP Ltd fertiliser and chemical manufacturer by two hybrid constructed wetland mesocosms was compared. The mesocosms were set up in order to help clarify the reasons why the two year old constructed wetland located at the industrial facility, a 1.2 ha free water surface/vertical flow conjugated system, has performed under the 50% ...
full textCharacteristics of MEG Removal from Industrial Wastewater by Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR)
Background: MEG is extensively applied in the sour gas industry as a hydrate inhibitor. It is toxic in oral drinking and serious injury or death may result from swallowing of pure ethylene glycol and poses a potential hazard to the environment through impact soil. Glycols are harmful to aquatic life. There is little information about the digestion of MEG in the aerobic reactor. Therefore, t...
